The Police Commissioner spoke Tuesday at the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt, while parading the suspects. Three of the suspects, who were allowed to field questions from newsmen, confessed that policemen arrived Omuokiri-Aluu community before the four students were murdered.
One of the suspects, Mr David Ugbaje, said he saw two policemen when the four students were being beaten, adding that one of them pleaded that the boys should be set free.
He said the other policeman joined the mob in beating the students.
According to him, the four students were accused of robbery, adding that the mob marched the four students to a compound on Coca-Cola Street to confirm if they truly went there to see a tenant, Mr Bright, as they alleged.
Ugbaje, a cobbler, said he and other neighbours in the compound had to push the riotous mob out of the compound where Bright lived when it became obvious that the mob wanted to lynch them there.
He said the man they allegedly went to see was not at home.
When asked if he did not join in beating the students, he said he only hit the students twice.
Ikechuckwu Louis Amadi and Lawal Segun in their separate comments, also said they saw policemen at the scene of the sad incident.
Lawal, a taxi driver, said he was not part of the mob that murdered the students but claimed to have pleaded with the mob to release the students.
On his part, Amadi said he saw four police men while the students were being beaten, adding that the angry mob insisted they were not going to release the boys to the policemen.
Others paraded were Alhaji Hassan Welewa, 59; Lucky Orji, 43 ; Cynthia Chinwo (F), 24; Ekpe Daniel, 30; George Nwadei, 30; Gabriel Oche 33; Ozioma Abajuo, 23; Chigozie Samuel, 22; Endurance Edet, 27 and Uwem Akpabio, 30.

DEATH SCARE: Rufai Responding To Treatment - Bruce Rufai

Bruce Rufai, younger brother of former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, said on Tuesday that his brother was now in a stable condition after he suddenly collapsed on Monday evening in Lagos.
Bruce told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on telephone, that the former national goalkeeper was on the verge of being discharged from the hospital.

NAN reports that the former goalkeeper was said to have slumped in his office on Monday evening and was rushed to a hospital in the Surulere area of Lagos, where he was eventually revived.
The cause of the slump is yet to be ascertained, but sources hinted that it may not be unconnected with the recent demise of his mother, whom the former goalkeeper was said to have been very close to.
“He is responding well now, it all happened yesterday night but we are grateful his condition has stabilised, we are thankful for that.
“We don’t know for now the cause of the illness, the doctors are yet to tell us what exactly happened. We are waiting for their reports,’’ Bruce said.
When asked by NAN when the former player would be discharged, he said the doctors were yet to ascertain when he would be discharged.
“The doctor is coming back this afternoon to give the final say; but we don’t know when he would be discharged for now,’’ the brother said.
NAN reports that Rufai was a member of the victorious Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia.
He was a former goalkeeper of the defunct Stationery Stores FC of Lagos that lost in the 1981 final of the then African Champions Cup (now the CAF Champions League) to Union Douala FC of Cameroon.
Peter also had stints in Spain and Holland and also represented Nigeria at the U.S.A. `94 and the France `98 World Cup.

UNIPORT Lecturer Allegedly Flogs Two Female Students For Loitering During Classes

Two female students of the University of Port-Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State, department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, faculty of Humanities, were flogged on Friday, Sept 21,2012, for gallivanting while class was going on.
The dean of the faculty, Prof O. M. Ndimele, flogged the two female students, while having LCS 100, with the 100 level LCS students, at the Convocation Arena of the school.
We have heard previous reports of Undergraduates flogged or asked to ‘Kneel down’ in schools like Convenant & others.
Although the incident has come and gone, one question that would last for quite a while is “why should a university student be flogged?”

Teenage Girl Flogged In Mali For Speaking To Men On The Street

A teenaged girl received 60 lashes in Timbuktu after Islamist extremists convicted her of speaking to men on the street.
The girl, about 15 years old, was allegedly caught standing alongside men by the Islamists of Ansar Dine who now run Timbuktu.
“The Islamists charged that the girl was warned five times by Islamist police but she continued to speak to men in the street. After the hearing, the Islamists gave 60 lashes to the girl. The population did not turn out in large numbers to attend this flogging,” said Ousmane Maiga, a Timbuktu resident contacted by phone from Bamako.
The public whipping took place at around 11 a.m. local time in front of the new headquarters of the Islamic police in downtown Timbuktu, next to Independence Square.

Aluu 4: Coxson Lelebari, Prime Suspect, in Police Net

Information emerging from the police has revealed that Coxson Lelebori Lucky, one of the prime suspects in the “Aluu 4” killings might have been nabbed.
It will be recalled that the Police had disclosed on Monday that two prime suspects in the gruesome murder of four University of Port Harcourt Students through a mob action were on the run.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, Tuesday broke the cheering news that the two prime suspects have been arrested in Port Harcourt. Although, the police IG declined to give their names, a statement that emanated from his office on Monday giving an update of investigations into the killings had noted that one Coxson Lelebori Lucky who was the architect of the crises that led to the killing of the students, was on the run and that the Police was on his trail.
If the above information is to be pieced with the declaration of the police boss on Tuesday, all things being equal, then the prime suspect is already in police custody. Nigerians have been clamoring for the arrest and prompt bringing to justice of all those involved in the killing of the students. This would indeed be a welcome development and a thumbs up for the police!

Kogi State House Of Assembly Impeach Speaker, Principal Officers

The Kogi state House of Assembly has impeached the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdullahi Bello and ten other principal officers.
The Kogi state House of Assembly has been in disarray in the last few months over plan by some aggrieved members to remove the Speaker and other principal officers of the House.

The Speaker has been having a running battle with some lawmakers who had been plotting to remove him from office.
It is not clear how many lawmakers were at Tuesday morning’s sitting as the House was not set to sit until Thursday.
The Minority Leader of the assembly, Yori Afolabi, had previously warned against the desperate attempt to remove the leadership of the House, noting that the executive arm of government is dangling N15 million to any lawmaker who consents to the plot.
Meanwhile, the House of assembly have elected Lawal Jimoh to replace Mr Bello as Speaker.
